Birth Control and the Freedom of Religion

THE ARGUMENT - MY PERSONAL VIEW
The federal government of the United States of America is planning to enforce a bill regarding birth control. This bill, as many may see, is a violation of the first amendment. The reason for this is because all peoples of America would have to provide their funds to those who need assistance, sexually, hence birth control. I feel as if this is a violation of our freedom of religion that us Americans are provided by our first amendment. I may be a Roman Catholic, and that is the better reason for my argument. If this bill goes through, catholics, who believe in pro-life, will be forced onto paying for something they do not believe in. While I have no reason to deny people birth control, I do not feel as if it is my job to provide safety for their sexual pleasures.

"This dispute is not about access to contraceptives but about the government's forcing the church to provide them." The top catholic bishops of the United States have no issue with people being provided health care, but as I feel, it is not their job, or the church's to provide it for them as this new bill would make them do so. There have been many diversions of this issue, changing to a Georgetown law student's "slut"-like allegations to Saturday Night Live mocking these bishops. Though, these bishops are still attempting to act professionally in this ordeal and continue fighting for their rights provided in the first amendment. Many claim this is just a way to get the church's public image reassessed after several allegations in the past years, but as a whole, catholics as well as other religions should not have to pay for the sexual tendencies of many Americans.

Within this article, the author states how it is not the matter of freedom of religion here, but religious bullying. This article continues to state that catholics, though being religious people, do not feel as if they are inclined to provide these services, which is correct. But it continues to go on about how catholics also do not care about those outside of roman catholicism. The author continues on to bash catholic universities and what would make them look better is to only hire, teach, and provide for catholics. Also, it would just be better if catholics gave into change for once, because it'd be easier for this process and would end this controversy.
Response - I would agree, but religious bashing by this author is unprofessional, as well as telling catholics to go against another part of our first amendment. Everyone has freedom of speech, and catholics defending their religion is under this speech, so they do not have to give into change unless they see fit. So until people are denied the right to speak, I believe catholics should continue fighting for what they feel is right, unlike the way this author feels.
